A New Original Art Collection from Margot's Musings

There is something irresistible about a little house tucked away in the woods.

Perhaps it is the crooked roof, the tiny window glowing against the trees, or the thought that somewhere beyond the path there might be another house waiting to be discovered.

That little bit of wondering is at the heart of The Little Woodland Village, a new six-sheet Original Art Collection from Margot's Musings.

A Village Drawn by Hand

The Little Woodland Village began with Margot's whimsical houses.

No two are quite alike. There are tall houses and squat houses, peaked roofs and rounded doors, tiny windows and chimneys that seem to lean just a little. They aren't meant to be perfect houses. They are the sort of houses that make you wonder who might live inside.

From there, the village began to grow.

Trees appeared. Mushrooms sprouted beneath them. Flowers, stones, bits of brick and woodland details found their way onto the pages.

And before long, Margot hadn't simply drawn a collection of houses.

She had created a little world.

Six Original Art Sheets

The collection includes six coordinating printable sheets created from Margot's original artwork.

You'll find whimsical village houses to cut out and arrange, woodland trees and oversized mushrooms, flowers and natural elements, and smaller details that can be layered into your own creations.

There are also wonderful bits of texture—brick, stone, roof patterns, pumpkins, wood and other curious little pieces that invite you to cut, layer and experiment. i

Three expressive full-page paintings help create the world around them.

One takes you into a stand of slender birch trees. Another moves into a deep, star-speckled darkness that feels just right for a village after nightfall. And a soft, painterly woodland landscape offers yet another place for your little village to grow.

What Could You Make?

That's one of my favorite things about this collection: Margot has provided the pieces, but she hasn't decided what they have to become.

You might create a woodland journal page with a tiny house hidden among the trees.

Cut out several houses and arrange your own village.

Make journal cards, pockets or tags.

Build a nighttime scene against the dark background.

Add a mushroom beside a doorway, tuck a tree behind a rooftop, or use the brick and stone pieces to add another layer of texture.

You could even create a little village that stretches across several pages of a journal.

Your imagination is the only limit as to what this village collection can become.

The Beauty of Something Made by Hand

One of the things I especially love about Margot's work is that you can still see the hand of the artist in it.

The lines aren't mechanically perfect. Colors wander. Shapes have personality. A house can lean a little. A mushroom can grow impossibly tall.

Those aren't things we want to correct.

They're part of what makes the artwork Margot's.

Every piece in Margot's Musings begins as original artwork created by hand. The artwork is then carefully prepared as a printable digital collection while preserving the character of Margot's original marks, textures and colors.

In a world filled with things made to look exactly alike, there is something rather wonderful about that.
