Our Story

Why The Vestige Post exists

A monthly letter subscription for those who miss something real.

There was a time when opening the mailbox felt like something.

Not every day, and not always — but often enough to remember it. A letter. A card. Something chosen, sent, and held. Something meant for you.

I think many of us remember that feeling, even if only faintly now. There was a quiet anticipation in it. A reason to check the mail — not out of habit, but out of hope.

Somewhere along the way, that changed. Messages became faster. Easier. Constant. And in many ways, that’s a gift. But something else happened too — something quieter. The meaning began to thin. Words became more immediate, but less lasting.

I have a friend who still writes letters. Real ones. Thoughtful, intentional letters sent through the mail. And every time one arrives, it stands apart from everything else. I don’t open it quickly. I don’t skim it. I sit with it.

That feeling stayed with me. That’s where The Vestige Post began.

Not as a reaction to the modern world, but as a quiet offering within it. Each month, an envelope arrives holding a thoughtfully curated collection gathered around a single theme — a letter, original poetry, a featured artist postcard, and small paper ephemera meant to be held and revisited. Alongside each mailing, you’ll find a deeper look at the month’s featured artist here on the site.

Not everything has to be kept. But some things are worth it.
