Between Two Shores (Ephemera Kit)
Some journeys are measured in miles. Others are measured in crossings.
The ferryman lives in the space between departure and arrival, between one shore and the next. His work is practical—ropes, ledgers, tickets, tide charts, weather notices—but there is something quietly poetic about a life spent carrying others across water.
He knows the river’s moods.
He watches fog gather before others notice.
He reads currents by moonlight and learns which crossings require patience and which demand courage.
A ferryman understands something many of us forget: crossing is rarely instant.
There is always a middle.
A place where the familiar shore has slipped behind, yet the far bank is not fully visible. A place of uncertainty, waiting, and trust.
Perhaps that is why the ferryman feels so timeless.
We all find ourselves between two shores at some point—between seasons, between homes, between grief and healing, between who we were and who we are becoming.
This month’s ephemera collection, Between Two Shores, draws inspiration from the quiet labor and understated beauty of river crossings in another era.
Inside this collection you’ll find river maps, ferry tickets, dock ledgers, tide charts, signal notices, naturalist observations, and paper goods weathered by water, fog, and time. Marsh botanicals, water birds, and worn ferry records tell the story of a life shaped by current and crossing.
The palette reflects the river itself—soft blue-gray water, weathered cream paper, muted greens from reeds and marsh grasses, and the gentle sepia of old documents handled countless times.
Each piece was designed to feel as though it might have been gathered from a ferryman’s satchel: practical records, small observations, and quiet remnants of daily work.
As with every collection at The Vestige Post, this kit is not only about paper.
It is about atmosphere.
Memory.
Story.
And perhaps a gentle reminder:
If you are between two shores right now, you do not need to rush the crossing.
Sometimes the middle is where we learn to listen.
Sometimes the fog lifts only when we stop fighting it.
And sometimes safe passage comes not from certainty, but from trusting the current enough to continue.
Thank you for spending a little time on the river with me.
May your crossing be steady, and may the far shore greet you kindly.
